2004-2005 Religious Education & Youth Activities Report

 

Children and Youth Programs—Sharon Lechtenberg

  • 609 children were in the Religious Education Program in Preschool-Age 3 through the 12th grade.  These classes met 28-30 times in 59 classes in four sessions on Sunday and one on Wednesdays.

  • 116 volunteers worked as teachers and teachers aides in the 2004-2005 program.

  • 58 First Communions were prepared for and celebrated this year.

  • 58 First Reconciliations were prepared for and celebrated this year.

  • 53 persons celebrated the sacrament of Confirmation on April 23, 2005. This program consists of 2 retreats, several group service projects, individual interviews, and classes.

  • 121 children participated in Vacation Bible School in June, 2005.  69 volunteers worked as teachers, aides, craft workers, recreation helpers, etc. for the Bible School program.


Adult Programs

  • Adult Sunday Morning Scripture Classes met regularly with Deacon Alan Mikell with 30-40 people in attendance.  The classes were based on the Sunday readings and other selected materials.  

  • Father Jewitt met with the parents of the children preparing for First Reconciliation - First Communion for 10 classes with approximately 100 parents in attendance.

  • Catholic Issues classes met regularly on Sunday mornings with Joe and Karen Guzman.

  • Miscellaneous classes and activities for adults were the following—

  • Baptism classes with Father Jewitt and Bob and Jane Bookout

  • Further development of Small Church Communities by Virginia Johnson and her core team.

  • Advent Day of Reflection with Deacon Jim Breazile.

  • Lenten Mission with Father Michael Mulhearn.

 

Preschool - Phyllis Webb   

  •     45 children were enrolled in St. Bernard's Preschool.

  •     6 teachers taught six classes of two through five year olds.

RCIA - Rosemarie Nagel

  • 10 adults and 2 youth joined the Church at the Easter Vigil, March 26, 2005. 

  • 1 adult was confirmed at the Easter Vigil. 

  • 12 parishioners served as sponsors for the adults.

Youth Activities - Chad Taber
 

  • Middle School Youth Group (Met weekly)

  • 15-25 young people was the average attendance for weekly Dawg House.

  • 25-40 attended the other activities

  • High School Youth Group (Met three times weekly)

  • 18-30 was the average attendance for activities, including weekly Bible Study.

  • At least 15 came for weekly basketball (seasonal).

  • 21 youth and 4 adults attended the summer retreat.

  • 16 Attended the Region X Youth Conference in Oklahoma City in November, 2004.

  • Other activities include TEC Retreat Program, Diocesan Rallies, and Service Projects, other Diocesan retreat programs.

  • 23 attended the Steubenville Youth Conference in July of 2004.

Six Flags Over Texas (Annual Trip for 28 years)

  • 93 youth in Middle and High School and 7 adults (Trip/June 7).
