Preschool
St. Bernard’s provides a loving Christian environment in which the children develop basic learning skills and express themselves creatively.
Classes begin the day after Labor Day and run through the third week of May. We follow the Jenks Public Schools calendar for holidays and snow days.
Morning activities include group sharing experiences and individual activities in learning centers. Children participate in story songs, finger play, art and outdoor recreation. Child evaluations are sent home twice a year.
The two-day program is on Tuesday and Thursday. The three-day program is Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Hours are from 9:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m.
Two-Year Olds
Two year olds should be toilet trained. (We will accept children of parents who are actively pursuing this task.) They have daily activities which include group time, art, outdoor play and gross and fine motor activities. They learn colors, shapes and counting from one to ten. Language development is achieved through finger play, songs, stories and conversations related to their experiences.
Three-Year Olds
Three year olds daily activities include art, play centers, circle time, cooking, outdoor play, stories, games and one on one work with the teacher. Language development is encouraged through songs, stories, rhymes, word games, and hands-on experiences.
Four-Year Olds
Four year olds activities include art, circle time, learning centers, stories, games and one on one work with the teacher. There is an introduction to the writing of letters, numbers, colors, and shapes. Self-esteem is developed through the building of socialization skills.
Extra Programs
St. Bernard’s offers extra programs on a periodic basis. There are visits from the fire truck, a policeman, an eye care professional and a hearing specialist. Two field trips are offered during the year. A weekly computer class is included in the three-year old and four year old curriculum. Once a week the children go to church for a Bible lesson. Music/rhythm classes are offered each week.
We recognize and celebrate most holidays during the year. At Christmas, we present a program for our families, and in May we host a Mother’s Day Tea for our mothers. Also in May we host a four year old graduation and an end of school family picnic.
Faculty
St. Bernard’s Preschool staff, most of whom have education degrees as well as years of experience, are dedicated to their students and their profession. All teachers attend yearly CPR and first aid training and are required to have a minimum of 12 hours in workshops and continuing education annually.
Individual class newsletters are sent home each month to maintain open communication. Parents and teachers work together as partners in the child’s education.
Pupil-Teacher Ratio
One teacher to eight children.
